Spend three wonderful days getting to know beautiful Devon, the quintessential English county that has something for everyone, no matter what their interests.

We’ll take you to traditional country pubs, show you the wild Dartmoor Ponies, tell you about our rich history, drive you along spectacular coastal roads, introduce you to colourful local characters, and of course, take you for a Devonshire cream tea!

You will see that the tour can also be expanded to four or five days, and it is fully customisable, so we can adjust it to suit your preferences.

Day 1: The South Coast of Devon

Guest at Slapton Sands in Devon

This is a day that introduces you to Devon’s south coast, where beauty combines with history and tales of old to provide us with an intriguing day tour.

During this day we’ll explore the wonders of the South Devon coast, experiencing beautiful scenery, historical towns with Mayflower links, beautiful beaches, Berry Head with its interesting Napoleonic forts, small seaside communities with unexpected links to US World War II activity, and much more.

Itinerary

Day 2: Dartmoor

A Wild Dartmoor Pony

Dartmoor National Park offers something of interest for everyone and anyone, and during this day you’ll learn about many of its different and special attributes.

This ancient and mysterious place, 368 square miles in size, tells a great deal of different stories, and offers us, as tour guides, endless things to show off to our guests. Wild ponies that roam freely, granite tors, medieval clapper bridges, Bronze Age history, beautiful rivers, characterful pubs, and so much more.

Itinerary

Day 3: Exeter and East Devon

Colourful cottage and garden at Branscombe in Devon

Today we’ll visit the old Roman city of Exeter and experience some of its rich culture, then we’ll enjoy visits to some of East Devon's coastal and inland communities.

Exeter is a well-loved old city with over 70% of its Roman wall still intact, and plenty for the visitor to enjoy. We’ll focus on the museum and cathedral here, which between them tell a very complete, historical story of this important city. In the afternoon we’ll take you to visit some of the villages and towns that are dotted along the East Devon coast, where we can enjoy the contrasting beauty of each individual place, as well as stepping onto at least two or three different beaches.

Itinerary

Day 4: Ultimate Devon

Sharpham Wine and Cheese

We really want our guests to relax, so this will be a day that’s dedicated to making this happen for you - you're on holiday, after all! All you need to do is to sit back, relax, and enjoy the view!

It will be a slow and gentle day, without too much driving, and will include a visit to a haunted ruin that’s actually a house within a castle; a visit to a vineyard where we’ll have a wander amongst the vines and by the River Dart before enjoying a wine and cheese tasting. A journey on an authentic steam train through beautiful Devon countryside will help you slow down even more, and a visit to the small but perfectly formed old market town of Ashburton will give you a chance to visit some excellent independent shops, and to walk some of the antique trail that they have there. Of course, the opportunity to visit a quintessential tea room is on the cards too.

Itinerary

Day 5: West of Devon

The Garden House near Buckland Monachorum

A day where we focus on the western side of Devon, visiting a beautiful garden, and traditional Devon inn, and a magnificent historical property which was once owned by Sir Francis Drake.

This is a day where we visit one of the quieter areas of this lovely county. Starting with a drive across Dartmoor National Park (never a hardship), we will start the day by visiting Buckland Abbey. This National Trust property is very highly regarded in the area, partly for its beautiful location and grounds, partly for its fabulous historical buildings, and partly because of the man that once owned it, Sir Francis Drake no less, the intrepid sailor and explorer who had such a rewarding and interesting life. We will also visit The Garden House, a place of beauty, relaxation and interest, where wandering through this rich and varied garden is such a great pleasure.
