Somerset is a county with plenty to offer, and it also makes a very good stopping off point when I bring guests from London, either from Heathrow or their London city hotel, down to Devon.  We normally reach Somerset by mid to late morning, so a visit to either Glastonbury or Wells fits in very well.  Both are intriguing places, although very different from one another.  I really like Wells, with its sophistication and beautiful Cathedral, but Glastonbury has a special place in my heart, with its colour and characters, depth of history and quirky shops, and the wonderful Glastonbury Tor.  It is definitely my kind of place, and seems to suit my guests very well, since it offers something typically English in many ways, but quite off the wall in other ways!
